The San Leandro Unified School District is the main public school district serving the city of San Leandro. Its 12 schools - eight elementary (K-5), two middle (6-8), one high school (9-12) and one alternative high school serve approximately 8,900 students. A new campus, the San Leandro High School Fred T. Korematsu campus, opened in 2010 to serve all 9th grade students. The district includes an alternative, continuation high school (Lincoln) and independent study center, and the San Leandro Adult School. The staff is made up of 500 teachers and 250 classified personnel. The superintendent is Cindy Cathey.
