Founded in 1989, San Francisco County Transportation Authority administers long-range transportation planning as well as analyzes, designs and funds improvements for San Francisco's roadways and public transportation networks. In addition, it oversees the delivery of the Proposition K half-cent local transportation sales tax program and serves as the designated Congestion Management Agency for San Francisco. The authority acts as the San Francisco Program Manager for grants from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air and approves funding for transportation projects that directly benefit air quality, through reduced motor vehicle emissions.
