Frank Carl, the Sacramento County Agricultural Commissioner and Director of Weights and Measures, has several responsibilities. His department provides free identification of pests (insects or weeds), which can be done by bringing a sample of the pest to the office on Branch Center Road. If it cannot be immediately identified, a sample will be sent to a lab for analysis.
The office also regulates pesticide use and ensures county weighing and measuring devices are accurate. This includes all gas pumps, truck scales, taxis and grocery scales—anything used commercially. The office responds to consumer complaints about allegedly inaccurate devices and randomly tests grocery and department stores to ensure the prices they advertise are the actual prices charged at the cash register.
