River of Words is an annual international youth poetry and art contest that encourages students aged 5 to 19 to express their observations through creative expression. As a program of The Center for Environmental Literacy and part of the Kalmanovitz School of Education, River of Words combines science and the arts to inspire educators and students alike. With over 25 years of experience, River of Words has become a pioneer in place-based education, fostering a network of individuals dedicated to teaching the art and poetry of place to young people. Through professional development, exhibits, publications, and community programs, River of Words reaches thousands of educators and young people worldwide.
