History
I began teaching Improv for The Second City Training Center in Chicago over (gulp) twenty years ago. From Chicago I spent seven years in the wilds of Los Angeles where I was part of the first wave of teachers at The Second City, Los Angeles. My next chapter was seven years in NYC where I had the great pleasure of teaching for Magnet Theater. And now, I am thrilled to have started my current chapter by moving my base to the beautiful Bay Area of San Francisco where I have started my own Improv Studio, RHImprov!
Specialties
I love teaching Improv because it's an amazing multi-tool that allows people the opportunity to express their whole, free authentic selves and have a blast at the time. I love how Improv helps people notice where they hold themselves back and gives them tools to stretch beyond their perceived limits of who/how they get to be. Improv training is fantastic for performers of all stripes but it's also great for everyone else. It's a joyful (and thrilling) way to exercise the skills that support living a rich and connected life, such as: Empathy - By embodying different points of view, you learn what makes other people tick. Courage - Courage is a muscle, use it or lose it. Improv is a safe (and hilarious) way to practice moving through fear. Connection - Improv skills include learning to be present, to listen deeply and to give and take support. Joy - Improv class is a dedicated time to laugh, play and create more fun in your world. Improv is all that and so much more!
