The Presidio Historical Association (PHA) is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Presidio of San Francisco, a significant National Historic Landmark and national park on the West Coast. With a mission to foster understanding and conservation of the Presidio's rich history, the PHA highlights its stories, structures, sites, and people, showcasing the convergence of historical forces from across the American continent, Europe, Latin America, and Asia over more than two centuries. As the oldest military base in the western United States, the Presidio has witnessed the presence of various cultures and nations, starting from the Ohlone Indians to the Spanish garrison in 1776, followed by the soldiers of Spain (1776-1821), Mexico (1822-1846), and the United States (1846-1994). In 1994, the Presidio transitioned into a national historic park and became an integral part of the renowned Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA).
