Head Start is a federal grant-funded child development program for children ages four to five years old, and is operated on the grounds of McKinley Elementary School. Head Start's goal is to cultivate its charges' school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and their families.
The Head Start program encourages the participation of community volunteers, so anyone interested in being a Head Start volunteer is encouraged to call the central office.
