Assembly member Paul Fong represents Mountain View in the State of California's 22nd Assembly District and has served in this position since his election in November 2008.
As the Chairperson of the Assembly's Elections and Redistricting Committee, Fong's responsibilities include redistricting, a task which occurs every 10 years after the census and involves adjustments to Assembly, Senate, Board of Equalization and Congressional districts, to account for population shifts. Each district must have an equal population prior to statewide elections.
Additionally, Fong serves as a voting member of the following committees: Banking and Finance, Higher Education and Utilities and Commerce. He also sits on the Select Committees on Aerospace, Biotechnology, Community Colleges, Domestic Violence and Innovation and the Bay Area Economy. Fong is a member of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, the Community College Caucus and the Environmental Caucus.
Aside from Mountain View, Fong also represents Cupertino, Sunnyvale, about 80 percent of Santa Clara and 10 percent of San Jose.
