Established in 1982, the Waste Management Commission is a 15-plus-member advisory body to the Orange County Board of Supervisors. It advises the board of supervisors on matters related to municipal solid waste and hazardous waste management and the operation and maintenance of county s landfills. The commission is also responsible for waste reduction planning. The Waste Management Commission is a part of the OC Waste & Recycling department, which is governed by the County of Orange in California. The department manages solid waste disposal systems and serves more than 30 cities and over 3 million residents. It maintains a network of landfills and household hazardous waste collection centers. The OC Waste & Recycling department has a staff of nearly 270 employees.
