History
Store owner Matt has worked in the pet industry since 2015, from managing large independent chains to small, family-run shops in Los Angeles and the Midwest. Drawn to pet nutrition because of an ailing senior Pomeranian, Max, he used natural feeding & supplements to prolong the life of his best pal. Using his years of experience working for other stores, he struck out on his own with Off the Leash in 2021, hoping to help pets of Glendale and The Valley not just survive, but THRIVE. Because of his years in pet, Matt has worked to refine what he believes is the best-of-the-best while also taking affordability into account. On top of proper pet nutrition, community pride is an important aspect of the business: locally made and designed products are regularly featured in the store in all categories, from treats to apparel.
Specialties
We're a Queer-owned pet food and supply store with a focus on premium nutrition at affordable prices. We seek out brands geared toward small, family-owned stores and many of our fun treats, toys, accessories and apparel are sourced locally. Off the Leash is a bit different than most other pet stores, even in LA, as our strict brand standards don't afford most brands a spot on our shelves. We require all food and treats to be free of corn, wheat, soy, by-products and chemical preservatives. We also take into account ingredient sourcing, ethics and sustainability, recall history, carbon footprint, and even company culture.
