North Bakersfield Recreation and Park District is a special district operating under section 5780 of the California State Code. North Bakersfield Recreation & Park District provides more than 200 public recreation activities and sports programs for North of the River and Metro Bakersfield area residents. NBRD also provides more than 20 public parks and three public pools. Additional features include baseball diamonds, soccer and football fields, basketball courts, jungle gyms, swings, disc golf courses, picnic areas and barbeque pits. The district was originally organized in 1955 by a vote of the people as the North of the River Public Recreation District, then reorganized and renamed in 1960 to include park operations and a larger service area.
