Since 1948, owner John Bazacas has been a cornerstone in Southern California's physical fitness industry. John started his career as manager / trainer of the legendary George Redpath's Gym in Los Angeles. It has been said that his son, Tom Bazacas ( manager of the NBAC ), could be seen climbing the rope by the age of four. It was in these early years that John realized the satisfaction he gained in helping others achieve physical strength, self-esteem and general well being. In 1961, John moved his family to Corona Del Mar and opened Milo's Health Club. John's desire for Milo's was to open a health club that emphasized camaraderie and proper instruction within a safe environment. Fast forward to 1965 ; we find John moving Milo's to Newport Shores where he built a new facility. In 1971, John makes a bold move: he breaks ground on the Newport Beach Athletic Club. Since then, the NBAC has gone through several renovations -- always keeping in step with equipment upgrades and most importantly, the needs of members. Most recently the club is expanding NBAC Caf by building an outdoor deck for members to meet, eat and just relax. In addition, the NBAC has installed an outdoor BBQ, which allows the Caf to cook-up a variety of new, healthy items. Yes, John has seen it all: from the leopard print posing trunks of Muscle Beach in the '50s -- to the aerobics craze of the '80s -- to the corporate buyouts of the '90s. Through it all, John's focus has remained steadfast and steeped in the tradition of providing outstanding service and personal attention to members. The rest is history. The Newport Beach Athletic Club is located within Fashion Island. Our 17, 000 square foot family owned facility offers a comfortable environment for both men and women to individually workout, relax and recreate.
