The NAPA Firefighters Museum originated at the Napa Town Center across from Buckhorns. It was started by an active duty group of volunteers. As they retired from duty and saw the older fire engines collecting dust, they had to do something about preserving firefighter vestiges that told the story of their period of time. On dispaly are an 1859 Jeffer Hand Pumper from when the downtown Fire Department was called Pioneer Company 1 1931. At the time, The Tannery's Fire Brigade, along with other hosing companies, worked on a volunteer basis. It was in July of 1906 that the City of Napa incorporated the latter day Fire Dept. Latter 5 was used until the 70s. The Napa Fire Department maintained its equipment so well that it exceeded national standards, and lasted well beyond expectation. In 1926 the Firefighter Association purchased the fleet of latter vestiges and restored them for parade use. The Napa Firefighter Museum continues in that tradition in preserving Napa's history to this day. This is a must-see destination for firefighters from all over the world. Admission is free. Tax deductible donations are greatly appreciated. School tours and scheduled tours may be booked in advance.
