The Recording Academy, located in Santa Monica, Calif., and established in 1957, is an association of recording professionals. It has been operational for more than 47 years and hosts the Grammy Awards and various other award functions that honor achievement in the recording arts, and supports the music community. The Academy also presents other notable honors and contributions for excellence in the field of music, including the Grammy Legend Award and Grammy Hall Of Fame Award. It employs more than 5,500 producers, engineers, remixers, manufacturers, technologists and other related music recording industry professionals. It helps in the development and adoption of new technologies, and recommends practices in recording, master delivery, archiving and preservation. It also provides support for music education and education in the recording arts. The academy is also an arts advocacy and outreach organization that serves musicians, industry members and the community.
