Monterey County Public Works Department is based in Salinas, Calif., and is one of the departments operating under the county of Monterey. It comprises various divisions that include architectural and facilities, traffic engineering, transportation and development, engineering and design services, construction, maintenance and fleet management divisions. It is responsible for management, operation and maintenance of public roads, bridges and storm drains. The department also offers sanitation district collection, treatment and disposal facilities, county landfills for the unincorporated area of the county. It is also responsible for planning, financing, and implementing the capital improvement programs consisting of road and bridge projects, county buildings and facilities and various other service area developments. In addition, the Monterey County Public Works Department issues permits for encroachments within the county road right of way, sewer connection permits within special districts and transportation permits for the road system.
