Metropolitan State Hospital, located in Norwalk, Calif., offers consumer-based, integrated mental health services and is also involved in research and training. The hospital in Los Angeles County serves patients primarily from Southern California and neighboring counties, and the location also provides access to other mental health facilities. It provides a range of treatments, including acute care, intermediate and subacute care, psychiatric rehabilitation, and a nursing facility. The hospital also provides basic treatment services, such as medical, nursing, rehabilitation, pharmacy, dietary, psychology and social services. The programs were developed to respond to the identified inpatient treatment needs of the counties. The hospital is a joint effort by the California Department of Mental Health, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and several community agencies, including the Asian-Pacific Planning Council.
