The nonprofit Los Gatos Rowing Club was founded in 1979 to help students from Santa Clara Valley learn how to row competitively. It's estimated 2,500 students from 30 different high schools have participated in the program, winning national championships. Many have practiced the sport competitively at several colleges and universities, earning scholarships.
The club's boathouse is located on Alma Bridge Road, overlooking Lexington Reservoir. The club shares the boathouse and facilities with the Santa Clara University Boat Club, which also has a program at Lexington Reservoir. Rowing coaches are the only paid staff; the rest of the work is done by students, parents and supporters of the program. The president of the club's board of directors is Hilary Williams. There are between 130 and 150 students enrolled in the program.
