The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is the largest provider of contract law enforcement services in the world. It provides a variety of specialized services, such as international liaison and employee support. The department is divided into various divisions that are headed by a division chief. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department operates several patrol, custody operations, correctional, detective, court services, administrative, technical services, and leadership and training divisions. It also operates the Office of Homeland Security, which responds to critically injured individuals, initiates rescue operations, establishes crime scene perimeters, and develops logistical supply and communications lines. The department also supports the Sheriff's Youth Foundation, which provides at-risk youth with safe opportunities to grow and develop the tools they need to succeed in life. Established in 1849, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department maintains an office in Chatsworth, Calif.
