Formed in 1985, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works is a public service agency of the Los Angeles County, Based in California, the public works department is responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, airports, sewers, water supply, flood control, water quality and water conservation facilities and for the design and construction of capital projects. Its additional responsibilities include regulatory and ministerial programs for the County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Flood Control District, other special districts and contract cities that request services. The department also operates an Emergency Operations Center for responding to problems reported by the public and other agencies as well as major emergencies, such as floods, earthquakes, fires and other disasters.
