Alameda Family Services, formerly known as Xanthos, Inc., has been serving the Alameda community since 1969. Founded by Sue Matheson with just $500 and a few volunteers, the agency has evolved from a teen hotline called The Love-In Switchboard to a comprehensive resource center providing progressive services to individuals and families at all stages of life.
With a mission to foster healing, resiliency, and growth, Alameda Family Services offers a range of programs including school-based services in collaboration with Alameda Unified School District, early childhood family support through Head Start and Early Head Start, and counseling services for families, children, adults, couples, and groups. Committed to inclusion, integrity, compassion, well-being, and community, the agency envisions a community where the well-being of all is realized.
