History
Founded as an Inn, Diner, and one of California's earliest gas stations, Loma Vista Gardens has acted as a community gathering area and place for weary travelers to rest and refuel, for nearly 100 years. Loma Vista was built in 1937, the same year as Highway 1, by the granddaughter of one of Big Sur's first settler families, the Posts. As the new highway connected the rugged and untamed Big Sur wilderness to the rest of the world for the first time, Loma Vista filled a new need in the community, becoming the first business to grace the Big Sur Valley. Still family owned and offering the same hospitality, Loma Vista Gardens is a staple of the Big Sur coast, now home to the world famous Big Sur Bakery, retail and shopping, and our historic gardens.
