The Lafayette United Methodist Church was established in 1855 and made its home in a number of historic buildings in Lafayette until 1927, when they moved into the town's school house. The old school bell tower can still be seen and has been designated as a historic landmark. Children of the church's parishioners are allowed to ring the bell each Sunday morning before services.
The church buildings house several different entities and groups, including the church's Joyful Beginnings Preschool, the Jr. High After-School Mentor Center, ESL classes, Senior Citizens luncheons, and Wednesday evening Bible classes as well as Sunday evening youth programs.
