La Fire Department
Established in 1886, the Los Angeles Fire Department provides a range of fire safety and prevention programs. It offers emergency medical care, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster response and public education services. The department additionally provides risk management, in-service training, and fire inspection and investigation services. It operates more than 100 fire stations throughout the City of Los Angeles and has a staff of over 3,500 uniformed personnel. The department provides a range of apparel and gift items, such as T-shirts, aprons, blankets, flashlights, glassware, stickers, gear bags, hitch covers and figurines. Its staff includes assistant chiefs, firefighters, captains and lieutenants. The Los Angeles Fire Department maintains one of its fire stations in Van Nuys, Calif.
