Founded in 1969, L.A. GOAL aims to "create a more open society where all people with developmental disabilities can achieve employment and full inclusion into their communities." The company's Independent Living Skills programs operate seven days per week, 50 weeks per year and offer employment and vocational training, independent living skills, wellness and healthy lifestyles, as well as leadership, social and recreational opportunities.
In 1995, L.A. GOAL established Inside Out Productions, a commercial art and sewing studio, which offers paid employment to its trained artists. The studio boasts 21 artists employed on a part-time basis and six apprentices. Additionally, 30 artists participate in Saturday art classes, which include basic painting, drawing and personal artistic expression.
