History
KVGC 1340 AM began broadcasting as KNGT-FM over 30 years ago and has been a fixture in the foothills ever since, providing local news, community access and emergency broadcasts. KVGC has been heard for the past several years over the Internet and on an SCA subcarrier channel as HomeTown Radio. In 2003, the former KNGT-FM station was purchased by a media conglomerate for broadcast to Central Valley audiences, and foothill listeners lost access to local emergency and news broadcasts. Jim Guidi, long-time operations manager and on-air personality for KNGT, and his wife Teresa reopened the Jackson station broadcasting on the SCA band. KVGC 1340 AM is the culmination of a seven-year quest by Jim Guidi, to get the only local source of radio news and information back on conventional airwaves.
