Open since 2000, the Kelly Avenue Catholic Worker is a non-denominational organization providing housing and food for those in need. It is run out of a residential home that offers transitional housing for one family at a time.
Catholic Worker gives away produce donated by Portero Nuevo Farm and New Leaf Market on Tuesday mornings. Rice and beans are also available to take home. Diapers are sometimes available as well. Families are allowed one bag each.
The organization also co-sponsors a community breakfast on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Coastside Lutheran Evangelical Church. Anyone is welcome to attend the breakfast. Kelly Avenue Catholic Worker also maintains a community garden at Coastside Lutheran.
Because there are only two people on staff, the organization welcomes individual volunteers and donations to help support their programs. To keep up to date, request their newsletter, which is delivered by postal mail.
