The Berkeley campus in Berkeley's historic Helms Bakery Building is one of five campuses of JFKU, and houses its Department of Arts and Consciousness. The department grants an MFA program in Studio Art and an MA program in Transformative Arts. The latter is a hybrid studio and research degree that encourages visual artists to use their creativity to effect change in their own lives or in the world around them. The Berkeley campus includes computer labs and artist studios, an arts library and writing and research tutors. It also offers undergraduate classes, such as world religion and art history. JFKU is a fully-accredited university founded in 1964 that specializes in serving adult students and lifelong learners. Headquartered in Pleasant Hill, it grants law degrees, master's and doctoral degrees in psychology, and many other undergraduate and graduate fields. Most classes are held on evenings or weekends to accommodate working adults.
