The Irvine Unified School District governs more than 20 elementary, over four middle and nearly three high schools. Operational since 1972, the district serves approximately 26,000 students. Its schools offer various educational programs that include instruction in science, literature, mathematics, social science and fine arts. The district s schools provide foreign language classes in Spanish, French, Chinese and Latin, as well as offer the English as a Second Language program. Its schools operate orchestras and bands and provide sports programs, including football, volleyball, soccer, golf and tennis. The district s schools offer health, food and transportation services. The Irvine Unified School District additionally operates an early childhood learning center that provides education and support programs for preschoolers.
