Founded in 1968 as a public corporation under California law, the Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo assists low-income citizens secure and maintain long-term housing. It has built more than 300 housing units for low-to-moderate income families, as well as new housing developments for individuals with disabilities and senior citizens. The authority administers housing choice voucher, conventional housing and auxiliary support programs. Its housing choice voucher program provides long-term rental assistance to families and individuals. The authority s tenant-based rental assistance program is an emergency, short-term rental assistance program that was originally developed by the San Luis Obispo Supportive Housing Consortium. In addition, the Housing Authority of the City of San Luis Obispo s Family Self-Sufficiency program assists motivated individuals and families to become economically independent and self-sufficient.
