History
In the early aughts, I had my own CFT/CMT/CPT business in which I had begun to work with a lot of specialized populations. I Increasingly I found myself dealing with the intense emotions of my Clients as they faced the temporary or permanent loss of physical ability they had often not imagined they could lose. In supporting the people I worked with through these transitions, helping them to their place of maximum health and ability, working towards that place of growth and acceptance; I realized I felt undereducated and took a Masters in Psychology. From there my own transition was a very intuitive one, supported by outside forces like the Brain Studies and my own personal introduction to the world of auto immune illness. I have always had a strong belief in Therapy as a powerful tool for change, and now I get to experience that belief strengthened every day. I also believe the body is a part of that change and practice Somatically through MBCT, EcoTherapy, Hakomi, and more.
Specialties
People who come in have often found themselves suffering from chronic self criticism, & shame. They're afraid of the stigma of DEPRESSION, what if that's what they're feeling? Perhaps, but frequently there are Life Skills missing and a few evidence-based tools can effect major change. If perfectionism causes Depression, then learning thought tracking, self soothing, & how to realistically gage their own behaviors will be one type of antidote. So it's true, if you are feeling purposeless, lonely, & lost, it can be a sign that something is wrong. Countless studies have shown that human beings are drawn to making meaningful connections with others, wanting to do work they are passionate about, motivated to make a difference, & endlessly creative by nature. How would it feel: To have more success in communication, at work and in personal relationships, To avoid getting paralyzed when things are difficult because you know how to take care of yourself, To have a few regular practices that support self connection, develop emotional intelligence, and allow you to experience, identify, and skillfully manage emotion in the moment. This is Life Skills work, one of my specialties. My first concern when you come in is listening. Hearing what is troubling you, how you think & feel about it, what you've tried, and showing respectful, nonjudgmental care. From there the Collaboration begins and we plan how to move forward in a way that feels right to you.
