Founded in 1986 by Master Ryuho Okawa, Happy Science, or Kofuki-no-Kagaku, is a universal religion that believes in El Cantare, or Buddha and God. It is open to people of all backgrounds, though joining requires an application form and a short welcoming ceremony. Members will be asked "Do you believe in the Lord?" and receive the prayer book, "The Dharma of the Right Mind."
Church activities include reading and studying the books of Master Okawa to deepen one's relationship with God, attending weekly prayer services, watching lecture videos, attending international retreats, attending meditation and contemplation sessions, supporting charity activities in Africa and Asia, hosting "Friends Against Suicide" and "Anti-Bullying" campaigns and meeting other religious people around the world.
