Guided Discoveries is located on Harrison Avenue between Yale Avenue and Harvard Avenue. This active-lifestyle outdoor education program and summer camp company serves over 45,000 children, ages 7 to 18, annually. Founded in 1978 by Ross and Kristi Turner, the company's outdoor destinations include Catalina Island Marine Institute at Toyon Bay, Cherry Cover and Fox Landing. The company also operates Astrocamp in Idyllwild, California, which is located in the mountains above Palm Springs. The largest sailing school vessel on the West Coast, SSV TOLE MOUR, is the company's trademark tall ship program expedition. Here the students sail the ship to a different destination every day. The sailing instruction is aligned with the guidelines set forth by the American Sail Training Association. This particular excursion program increases the student's proficiency in seagoing skills, and is a hands-on marine biology and island ecology instruction class.
