Established in Oakland in 1944 and moved to Mill Valley in 1959, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary is a graduate theological school that educates Christian leaders for church-related vocations. The 10th largest seminary in the US, Golden Gate is an agency of the Southern Baptist Convention. Jeff Iorg was elected as the school's president in 2004.
The 148-acre Northern California campus in Mill Valley educates nearly 40 percent of the school's 1,807 students. Located atop Seminary Drive in the Strawberry region of Mill Valley, the campus is the school's only residential campus and is home to most of its administrative offices and classrooms, along with the main seminary library, chapel and the Marian Eakins Archaeological Museum. It is also features Golden Gate Academy, a Christian preschool serving Marin County that serves as a lab school for students.
The seminary offers degrees in divinity, theological studies, education leadership, theology, ministry, philosophy and other academic programs.
