Girls Incorporated of Alameda County, founded in 1958, is nonprofit organization offering academic activities, skill-building programs and counseling services to girls and their families. It is an affiliate of the national Girls Incorporated and offers a variety of programs, such as literacy, science, math, computers and technology. It also offers sports, health and fitness, leadership, community and culture, college and career preparation, health and sexuality, personal growth, advocacy and mental health services. It serves more than 7,000 girls and their families annually. It raises funds through grants, donations, memorials, tributes, bequests, special events and planned gifts. The organization was awarded the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence. Girls Incorporated of Alameda County is currently based at the Simpson Center for Girls in Oakland, CA.
