The owner, Omar Mueller, has had many adventures in the food world. A long time ago he worked for a french chef in Seattle where he learned that food creation can be a passionate but slightly insane place to live your life. Many restaurants later that sunk in, and he moved on. Not so long ago he worked in the specialty food department of a local grocery chain that carried lots of great wines and cheese. He earned an MBA taking classes at night. After graduation he purchased a property that was zoned to sell cheese and other goodies right in his neighborhood. Then he learned that renovating a building can be just as unnerving as cooking for a french chef. After a year or so becoming good friends with everyone working at the local building department... Freestone Artisan Cheese opened it's doors for business in the Spring of 2013!

Freestone Artisan Cheese is a big fan of the local cheese makers from Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino Counties. Our definition of local gets broader to include Artisan producers all over the country and some from the old. We like to be a part of that. Our shop specializes in the experience of tasting cheeses you may not have heard about and exposing you to all kinds of locally made products like Sebastopol made Olive Oil, kefir water sodas, kvass, pickled mushrooms and charcuterie. Try a handmade crepe on your way to the local redwood grove.
