Eugene Golts, MD, is a board -certified general and cardiothoracic surgeon who performs the full scope of cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic organ transplantation. Dr. Golts is surgical director of the Lung Transplant Program https health.ucsd.edu specialties surgery transplant pages lung-transplant.aspx at UC San Diego Health. An associate professor in the Department of Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr Golts' clinical and research interests include treating aortic disease with open and endovascular techniques, surgical treatment of atrial arrhythmias, minimally invasive aortic valve surgery, coronary revascularization, as well as ventricular assist device VAD implantation. He completed a residency in general surgery and a fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Golts earned his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Golts was a nurse anesthetist in his native Ukraine, and worked as an ICU nurse in Northern California after immigrating to the United States in 1992. He appreciates his nursing background for giving him a unique perspective on the patient and family experience in hospital settings. Dr. Golts serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Anesthesiology and is the co -author of many research papers and surgical textbook chapters. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
