The El Cerrito Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. The department has a crime prevention unit that maintains constant communication with the community through surveys, public forums, radio and other service groups. It offers a School Resource Officer program (SRO), which is a nationally accepted program that involves the placement of a law enforcement officer within the educational environment. In addition, the department conducts neighborhood watch program, which is a well-organized group of citizens that encourages residents to assist police department.
