History
Dunneville's history goes back to the mid-19th century, when Catherine O'Toole Murphy married James Dunne. Catherine was the inheritor of 22,000 acres of land between Morgan Hill and Hollister. The ranch and property was later inherited by James' son, Jimmy. He visited the town so frequently; Dunne had become its namesake. From the Dunne Ranch there ran a road (now San Felipe) into Hollister. It was crossed by the Wells Fargo stage line, which ran from Gilroy to Tres Pinos. These four corners were a lively place to visit while traveling in the West. Based partly on Dunne's exploits, and partly on the fact that he owned all the surrounding land, the crossing became known as Dunneville Corners. The grocery store was built in 1910 and has remained in continual operation. Bill & Gloria Regentz purchased Dunnville in 1972. In 2021 Sean & Sophia Shelton purchased the store. Today Dunneville is still a major crossing point which serves travelers & locals.
