History
Between 1877 and 1880, slightly more than thirty commercial buildings were erected along Park Street. In 1896, the City Hall building was completed, validating the District's title as Alameda's true commercial and civic hub. By 1905, over 150 structures lined Park Street and nearby roads. Then came The Earthquake, The War, and a bunch of other stuff. Between the two World Wars, there were a few more building booms. Although the older buildings have been converted into newer uses, the visual look along Park Street remains much the same. And the focus is still on locally-owned businesses.
