American Legion

The American Legion Louis Hagen Post 340 was organized November 16, 1928, in memory of a WWI veteran, Louis Hagen, with the aid of Teddy Roosevelt, whose son was a veteran. Because of Teddy's support, Congress recognized the Legion as a legitimate tax-exempt entity. The organization was created to aid veterans, widows and children; it utilizes the Veteran's Memorial Building on Stockton, which was dedicated by Contra Costa County to veterans for use. Fundraisers and meetings are held in this building, and the organization supports local youth programs, including the Girls and Boys State, the Oratorical Contest and Junior Baseball.
