The Department of Toxic Substances Control is a state regulatory agency protecting the people of California from toxic waste. The department employs experienced hazardous substances scientists, and public and business liaisons officers in its four regional offices. Its certified unified program agency conducts the unified program consisting of hazardous waste generator and on-site treatments, aboveground and underground storage tank programs, hazardous materials management and business plans and inventory statements, and risk management and prevention programs. The department also provides information about the federal hazardous waste laws through the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Headquartered in Sacramento, it has branch offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, Berkeley, Clovis, Cypress, Glendale and Calexico, Calif.
