L David Willison IV, MD, PHD
Double-board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and general adult psychiatry, Dr. Willison, treats patients of all ages at his private practice in Los Angeles. His approach to treatment includes a combination of medication management and psychotherapy, including cognitive-behavioral therapy with exposure and response prevention for treatment of anxiety disorders.Dr. Willison completed his early education at Moorestown Friends School, a private Quaker day school in Moorestown, New Jersey. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania for one year before transferring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelors of science degree in Course 7 (Biology).Dr. Willison then relocated to attend the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California, San Francisco. At UCSF, Dr. Willison earned his PhD in cell biology in 2005 before completing his medical degree in 2008. He went on to complete his psychiatry residency, and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship, at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2012 and 2014, respectively.Children and adults alike appreciate Dr. Willisons friendly, personable manner as well as his accurate diagnoses and individualized, integrative treatment. His background in research contributes to his informed, objective, and quantitative approach to medicine. In addition to seeing patients at his private practice, Dr. Willison is an attending psychiatrist at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center in the Anxiety Disorders Clinic and is the founding attending psychiatrist of its adult ADHD Clinic. His goal is to provide the highest degree of care for his patients and to help them and their families live more fulfilling, happier lives.
