City of Los Angeles governs the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. Formed inn January 1985, the department has 77 field facilities in strategic locations throughout Los Angeles County to better serve its one million residents in the unincorporated County areas, as well as contract cities. It is responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, airports, sewers, water supply, flood control, water quality, and water conservation facilities and for the design and construction of capital projects. The department s additional responsibilities include regulatory and ministerial programs for the County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Flood Control District, other special districts, and contract cities that request services.
