Clean Oceans International (COI) is a Santa Cruz-based 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing plastic pollution in the marine environment. Through research, innovation, and direct action, COI aims to develop financially attractive and environmentally friendly recycling infrastructure on a global scale, with a vision of a healthy marine environment free of plastic waste.
Founded in 2015, COI emerged from the ashes of The Clean Oceans Project, which initially focused on locating, collecting, and recycling plastic from the ocean. COI's approach centers around Portable Plastic Waste Conversion (PPWC) technology, which converts plastic waste into diesel fuel and other products. With a commitment to research, innovation, and direct action, COI engages volunteers in data collection, conducts expeditions and shoreline cleanups, and collaborates with local communities to address plastic pollution challenges worldwide.
