Tom LaBonge took over District 4 in 2001 after the death of longtime Los Angeles City Councilman John Ferraro, who served the district for 35 years before that. He was elected to the office in 2003 and again in 2007. LaBonge is an avid health enthusiast and proposes bike paths throughout Studio City to encourage alternative travel. For Studio City, the District 4 boundaries run east of Vineland and the 170 Freeway and include Toluca Lake, Universal and the Cahuenga Pass areas.
