The Beverly Hills City Council is comprised of five council members who are elected and serve for a period of four years. These council members represent the city of Beverly Hills. Elections take place every odd-numbered year, with either two or three members elected at a time.
From within the council, members appoint a mayor and vice mayor for one year, with these positions rotating every March. The mayor is the presiding officer at council meetings, as well as the city's ceremonial representative at public events.
The council is responsible for adopting an annual budget, enacting local laws and establishing new policies. The city manager is employed by the council to carry out approved policies and to serve as the executive officer of Beverly Hills.
Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located on the second floor of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled at other times. The council follows an agenda that is posted on the city's Web site and in the city clerk's office two to three days prior to a scheduled meeting.
All council meetings are broadcast live on BHTV10 and streamed live on the web.
