History
Since launching in 2011, Cat Town has rescued more than 3,000 cats, and helped reduce the Oakland shelter's euthanasia rate for cats from 42% in 2011 to less than 10% today. Starting with a foster-based program in 2011, we now have a network of approximately 50 foster homes in and around Oakland. We reserve the foster homes for the cats who most need a calm, quiet environment to thrive. Potential adopters meet these cats in their foster home, where they are most relaxed and able to show their true personalities. In 2014, we opened the Cat Town Cafe and Adoption Center. The Adoption Center allowed us to expand our mission and help even more hard-to-place cats who were at risk in local shelters.
