The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as CAL FIRE, offers a range of emergency response services. It provides fire protection solutions for more than 30 million acres of California's privately-owned wild lands. The department maintains a fleet of ladder trucks, bulldozers, fire engines and aircraft systems. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection administers a resource management program, as well as operates several fire stations. It responds to over 5,600 wild land fires each year. The department manages nearly five state commercial timber production and public recreation forests. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is governed by the State of California.
