California Highway Patrol, founded in 1929, is a law enforcement agency that is governed by the State of California. It is involved in the prevention of loss of life, injuries and property damage resulting from traffic collisions. The agency promotes the movement of people and goods throughout California, as well as minimizes exposure of the public to unsafe conditions. It works in collaboration with the local, state and federal public safety agencies. California Highway Patrol provides police services, conducts criminal investigations, performs vehicle theft investigations, and enforces traffic laws on county and state highways. It also assists in emergency conditions and offers disaster and lifesaving assistance solutions. The agency additionally conducts public awareness campaigns that promote the use of safety belts, motorcycle helmets and child-safety seats.
