Established in 1996 by the California Legislature, the California Earthquake Authority is a privately funded, publicly managed organization that sells earthquake insurance policies through participating insurance companies. It offers earthquake insurance to homeowners, renters and condominium owners throughout California. The authority also educates residents to make informed decisions regarding earthquake preparedness and the purchase of earthquake insurance. Its participating insurance companies include Allstate Insurance Company, Farmers Insurance Group, Mercury Insurance Company, Armed Forces Insurance Exchange and Golden Eagle Insurance Company. The California Earthquake Authority is headquartered in Sacramento, Calif.
